Key Points from YouTube video below:
Senator Blumenthal explains in his speech to the legislature that the U. S. Constitution allows states to run elections according to each state’s regulations. The Trump administration is trying to stop the public from voting in upcoming elections by doing (and not limited to) the following:
- Hiring pardoned January 6th rioters into election leadership positions to suppress the vote.
- Declaring a false national emergency to force states to follow radical election rules.
- Illegally changing election maps in each state (known as “gerrymandering”) by moving voters to new districts to ensure Trump wins.
- Taking away states’ voting rights at election sites by stopping voting by mail in, absentee ballots, and early voting.
- Bullying states to turn over lists of voter registration information and other private information (such as, but not limited to driver’s license, Social Security numbers, name, address and political party affiliation).
- Making false claims about immigrants legal status to prevent them from voting.
- Weaponizing election working groups and bringing false charges against officials to prevent them from running elections.
- Intimidating and punishing election officials to create fear & anxiety.
