Letters between Attorney General Tong and Concierge Owners

On Wednesday February 4, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong sent a letter to J.R.K. Property Holdings and J.R.K. Residential Group, the owners of the Concierge Appartments.

    Tong’s demands were that Concierge:

    • pay for lodging while repairs are underway
    • prorate rent for the days during which tenants could not access hot water or any other essential services
    • reimburse tenants for damaged property
    • provide a detailed plan for short and long term maintenance
    • permit tenants to break lease without penalty

On Thursday February 5, a lawyer representing Concierge sent a response to A.G. Tong, State Senator Matt Lesser, and State Representative Kerry Wood.

    The lawyer states that:

    • Concierge owners will continue to conduct repairs.
    • They will offer lodging in a hotel for impacted residents.
    • They will offer a one-month credit on rent to “any tenant who has submitted a work order or provided other proof of loss of hot water”.
    • They will not allow tenants to break their leases.

The lawyer expects rental insurance to cover damages. On a “case-by-case basis” the owners are willing to work with tenants if insurance declines.

This letter was shared by Senator Lesser on Facebook.
