How should Rocky Hill develop? Share your thoughts!

Our town’s Planning and Zoning Commission is updating the Rocky Hill Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD) and they want your input.

    What is the POCD?

Every ten years, Rocky Hill prepares a Plan of Conservation and Development. This document  is a long range advisory plan outlining the community’s goals  and vision for the  future. These  plans must be updated every ten years per State law.

The POCD discusses a range of issues, like housing, open spaces, conservation, and public transportation. Take a look at the 2015 plan to learn more about what goes into the document.

The Planning and Zoning Commission wants input from the public. You can find the Town’s current Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD) on the Town’s website.

    How can I participate?

Maybe you care about bike routes or have ideas about housing. This survey is a great way to communicate those ideas to the Town.

The Town has prepared a survey with a series of questions. Please take 5 minutes to answer them and provide the town with input!

You can also attend the next Planning and Zoning meeting about the POCD. That meeting will happen on March 26 at 630 PM. More details here.

Rocky Hill considers joining local redevelopment program

At the March 17, Town Council Meeting the Town Council received a presentation on a new resource to support development. David Kooris, the Executive Director of the CT Municiple Redevelopment Authority (MRDA) explained resources that Rocky Hill could deploy to develop our downtown area.

According to Kooris, the objectives of the MRDA are to promote economic development, particularly transit-oriented and new housing. This is done through:

    • Technical support to town staff in drafting zoning rules and building fiscal impact analysis
    • Low interest loans to the development and grants for infrastructure
    • Supporting finding a developer

In order to enroll in the program, there needs to be a public hearing. That hearing is scheduled for April 7th. After the hearing the Town Council needs to adopt a resolution declaring their intent to work with the MRDA.
