About John
John is a life long Rocky Hillian. He was a member of the Rocky Hill Volunteer Ambulance, Rocky Hill Fire Department, and RHPD and is well informed and experienced with Public Safety. His education began at West Hill in kindergarten and most of his current friends are from elementary school. John has served for 4 prior terms on the Town Council and offers a strong Conservative fiscal management perspective on budget discussions and adoption.
John’s primary goal is to maintain the small town rural character that many residents experienced during life in Rocky Hill. (There was actually a town center 50 years ago).
Keeping the school district well funded along with preserving more open space will allow the town to continue the small town character and enable Rocky Hill to standout among other Hartford County towns.
John takes pride in watching his 6 year old son go through West Hill School as he did 50 years ago. His other responsibilities involve Commercial Property Management with properties in Rocky Hill.
Why are you running?
“Apartments. We already have more apartments, per capita, than area towns our size. We need to put a moratorium in place, as was done 15 years ago, to stop more apartments from being built as this effects our school system and strains our budget.
I also care deeply about land preservation. During the prior Democratic Council there were over 250 acres preserved from future development. During the last 5 years of this Republican Council not one acre has been preserved. (The mayor supports more apartments). We need to be more assertive in reaching out to landowners to inform them they have options versus selling to developers. We need to preserve more land to retain the rural character that we enjoy. Preserving land from development is also a value-add for the town as studies have shown that it actually is a financial net positive versus an apartment development or subdivision that eventually puts a strain on town resources and staff.
“Additionally, we’ve seen tremendous growth in the Senior Center activities and participation thanks in large part to the Centers Director. We need to continue that momentum. An additional priority for a Democratic Council will be to put back the two resident seats on the Senior Liaison Committee that were removed from this Republican Council. It is not proper representation to only have Council members on this committee.
“Finally, bringing back transparency to the full Council and members of the public. The current Council leadership has been the least transparent leadership in recent memory. Backroom deals and conversations, away from public checks and balances is a disservice to residents and businesses of Rocky Hill.”
