About Mimi
I am a lifelong resident of Rocky Hill. My grandfather and great uncle purchased a farm on New Britain Ave in 1903. My husband and I currently reside on Trinity Ridge and our son David and I own (and my husband Phil manages) the Star of David Christmas Tree Farm on part of that 1903 land.
I went to public school in town and taught at West Hill for 10 years before going to Law School. I worked as a regulatory attorney at the Public Utility Regulatory Authority (formerly the Department of Public Utility Commission) for 30 years.
I have been active politically in town since I was a young girl dropping leaflets with my Dad, who was the Democratic Town Chair. I served for years on the Democratic Town Committee (2 years as Vice Chair), as Selectman, and as a delegate to several conventions.
I have served on the Town Council since July 2018. I served as Chair of the Design Committee during the design phase of the Community/Senior Center project. I am currently serving on Senior Liaison, Capital Improvement and Economic Development subcommittees. I volunteer at the Center serving lunches and facilitating a history class.
Why are you running?
“I feel after three terms of the current administration, there is much more work to be done.
“Medium income people have a difficult time procuring housing in our town. It is no longer affordable. We also need more housing for seniors, disabled and veterans. That said we need to think of ways to provide such housing while still maintaining the current farmland, open space and wooded spaces that are such a vital part of Rocky Hill’s history. Think “out of the box.”
“In light of the current chaos in D.C., we need to have a local government that supports our Governor and Attorney General, who are fighting daily to preserve our rights. We need a town government who will advocate for all town residents, not a selected few. I favor a Pride Sidewalk and reaffirming our support for Ukraine. Neither fit into the Trump agenda. Town Republicans also attempted, happily unsuccessfully, to replace the current hot meal lunches for our seniors with cold, pre-packaged sandwich lunches, again failing to consider a significant portion of our population.
“We also need to hold our current majority accountable for their poor use of ARPA funds by funding what should have been temporary positions as full time positions now paid by our taxes while failing to adequately fund construction and repair projects such as Stevens HVAC that cost the town grant funding and increased costs. They have also failed to grow our grand list, failed to hire a fill time qualified Economic Development professional and gave away a huge tax break to a large developer. That poor usage of funds and tax breaks lead us to the current budget crisis and a terrible 2025-2026 budget.
“I would also like to work on getting the ferry designated as a National Monument or National Park. It is currently on the National Registry but I don’t believe it is “protected.” I would also like to see a ferry museum outlining the history of the ferry and its importance to our community.
“We also need to restore transparency in our local government. No more back room deals, no more 8:30 am “special meetings” no more “no report” or cancellation of commission and subcommittee meetings for lack of quorum. We need a Council who takes governing seriously.”
