SUMMARY:Virtual Discussion with Rep. Larson and Attorney General Tong
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time \n\n\n\n\n\nFrom Congressman Larson: \n\n\n\nDear Friends\, Join me Thursday\, April 17th\, at 7:00 PM for a virtual conversation with Attorney General William Tong. You can register for the event HERE.     \n\n\n\nIn an interview last month\, Elon Musk identified Medicare\, Medicaid\, and Social Security as the Trump Administration’s ‘key targets’ for cuts. Since then\, the Administration has closed the Regional Office that assists Connecticut residents on Medicare\, supported a budget plan in Congress that could pave the way for cuts to Medicaid\, and moved forward with cuts at the Social Security Administration\, including office closures and lay offs of thousands of workers.I continue to speak out against these cuts in Congress and am committed to not just protecting but strengthening Americans’ earned benefits. At the state level\, Connecticut has been a leader in the legal cases against many of these actions. \n\n\n\nAttorney General Tong recently joined litigation to block the Administration’s cuts to public health funding\, including mental health and addiction services here in Connecticut. Today\, he filed a brief in court to block the layoffs and cuts taking place at the Social Security Administration.   \n\n\n\nAs your representative\, I want to hear from you. I look forward to discussing these issues and more with Attorney General Tong and answering some of your questions tomorrow night.   You can submit a question in advance HERE.

SUMMARY:Sustainable CT April Earth Month Coffee Hour
DESCRIPTION:From Sustainable CT: \n\n\n\nJoin us for a virtual coffee hour to learn about the results of a three-year Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) pilot\, funded by DEEP to address the state’s growing waste challenges. Municipalities that participated in the program achieved significant waste reduction and increased recycling. The pilots that led to permanent programs now lead the state in food scrap separation and composting. This session will feature speakers from these communities\, sharing insights on what worked\, how they engaged residents\, and the impact of their efforts\, as well as representatives from CT DEEP and Waste Zero. This is an opportunity to connect\, ask questions\, and hear real-world experiences and key takeaways from the pilot. Join Sustainable CT for virtual\, informal\, discussions most third Thursdays of each month. We share program updates and resources\, explore your questions\, and strengthen the network of Sustainable CT champions. These sessions are free and open to all.

SUMMARY:Town Council Meeting - April
DESCRIPTION:Our monthly town council meeting. Highlights for this meeting: \n\n\n\n\nThe budget is likely to be a major focus.\n\n\n\n\nThis description will be updated as we get closer to the event. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhat you can do\n\n\n\nWest Hill School’s roof is in disrepair as a result of a lack of investment in the Capital Improvement Fund. As a result\, the roof will often leak when it rains. In addition to damaging the building itself\, a damp building is harmful to the health of students and teachers. Please speak at public comment to ask the town prioritize the capital improvement fund\, and specifically to prioritize the rebuilding of the roof.

SUMMARY:Hands Off! Connecticut Fights Back
DESCRIPTION:From Hands Off 2025: \n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nDonald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. Connecticut is fighting back! \n\n\n\nThey’re taking everything they can get their hands on—our health care\, our data\, our jobs\, our services—and daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis\, and the time to act is now. \n\n\n\n🚨 On Saturday\, April 5th\, we’re taking to the streets to fight back with a clear message: Hands off! 🚨 \n\n\n\n📍 Where: State Capitol Building\, Hartford\, CT 📅 When: 3pm\, April 5\, 2025 \n\n\n\nThis mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Alongside Americans across the country\, we are marching\, rallying\, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country. \n\n\n\nA core principle behind all Hands Off! events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. \n\n\n\nCheck out handsoff2025.com for more information.

SUMMARY:Rally: Governor Lamont\, No More Methane Gas!
DESCRIPTION:From the CT Sierra Club: \n\n\n\n\nIn January\, Governor Ned Lamont stated his support for “natural” methane gas during his State of the State address. Then\, last month \, he signed off on allowing the Capitol Area System heating and cooling system to be updated with fossil fuels — continuing to make Hartford a sacrifice zone and fueling the climate crisis.  \n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re standing up and saying enough; enough with polluted air\, continued asthma\, and dirty energy. Connecticut deserves better. Instead\, we must pursue clean energy that helps our communities to thrive. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re calling on Governor Lamont to: \n\n\n\n\n\nReverse his decision on the Capitol Area System and move forward with network geothermal.\n\n\n\nDeny the permits for the Brookfield Compressor Stations.\n\n\n\n\n\nNow is not the time for fossil fuels. Now is the time to invest in clean and renewable energy. Join us on March 31st as we hold a press conference at the Legislative Office Building\, before marching to the Capitol Area System\, where we will do a die-in to represent the harm that this fossil fuel infrastructure inflicts on the community.
