Rocky Hill was represented by a range of public figures last night at the Power of Women event in West Hartford.
The event, organized by the Power of Women PAC, was focused on establishing mutual support networks between women office holders and women considering a run for office. Women make up half the population, but hold only about a third of elected seats according to the Center of American Women and Politics.

The evening centered around a simple fact: people are more likely to run for office if they have a support network. The Power of Women PAC sets a goal of establishing that support network. “It’s events like these that may change someone’s mind for the better to jump into the decision to run,” said State Representative Kerry Wood.
Sharon D. Mounds, Co Chair of the District 9 Democratic State Central Committee, was also in attendance. “What has motivated me,” said Mounds, “Is being a part of the decision-making process for the issues at hand, human rights, civil rights and medical rights. What inspires me, is when I work with people, especially ‘women who get it!’”

This election season, let the Rocky Hill Democratic Party be your support network to run for office. We’re calling on anyone interested in running for office to meet with us to learn more about how you can get started.
