Nutmeg State Donates $8,000 to the Rocky Hill Food Pantry to Support Concierge Residents

On Thursday, February 19, Nutmeg State CEO John Holt along with Bruce Adams, President of Connecticut’s Credit Unions, announced that the Rocky Hill-based nonprofit credit union would donate $8,000 to the Town of Rocky Hill Food Pantry in the wake of the evacuation of Concierge Residents from their homes

Holt shared that “we hope that this check will help everyone, perhaps get on their feet” and expressed a wish that Concierge residents “get back to their building soon.”

A resident of the Concierge apartments identified as “Frank” who works at the complex where Nutmeg State is based commented on the experience of Nutmeg residents. “It’s tough. It’s been a ride… it’s not easy, but we manage. I’m sure there’s other residents that go on a little more tougher than I am, because they’ve been flooded. They probably lost some items in their buildings. But yeah, we’re doing good so far, but we appreciate this help. Really, from the bottom of the heart, thank you.”

The funds are to be used by the Human Resources department as a part of their program to provide food and other supplies to Concierge residents, many of whom have lived for weeks in hotels without access to a kitchen.

Residents of Concierge and other Rocky Hill residents can receive support from the Food Pantry through appointment by calling (860) 258-2799. Other parties have offered resources and services to people displaced from the Concierge apartments.

Mayor Allan Smith commented, “this is really going to make a difference for our Human Services Department” and added “we’re still obviously working with the property owners to try to come to a resolution to get everybody back home safely. But this certainly helps so many people in the meantime.”

State Representative Kerry Wood added: “I want to thank Nutmeg Financial Credit Union for donating this money…. I think that in the midst of this tragedy, there have been so many wonderful things happening in our community with people stepping up and saying, ‘How can we help?’ Residents have volunteered at Concierge to help people move…tenants, there’s been huge donations to the Human Services Department, led by [Human Resources Director] Melissa Hicks and her team.”

Councilmember Zach van Luling added in a social media post. “This is what community looks like. Real help, delivered quickly, with dignity, and with the people most affected kept at the center.”

Readers are encouraged to support Concierge residents through donating funds and supplies to the Food Pantry.

  • Concierge Management calls for Residents of Building 200 to Return as Mold and Asbestos Reported in Other Buildings

Concierge Management calls for Residents of Building 200 to Return as Mold and Asbestos Reported in Other Buildings

At 3:42pm on Thursday, February 19, residents of Concierge building 200 received an email saying “Building B has passed all inspections and is ready for you to return home”. The email was forwarded by a resident of building 200.

The email comes a day later than previously signaled by Concierge, as the management struggled to complete the required paperwork.

Building 200 is the third building to be cleared for residence by the Rocky Hill building inspector and fire marshall. Residents of buildings 100 and 300 are still residing in hotels, with a projected repair date of Feburary 27 and March 6, respectively.

A resident who had returned to Concierge shared a picture of asbestos treatment in Building 100:

Concierge residents have continued to raise awareness about their condition and the status of the buildings. A number participated in public comment in the Tuesday night Town Council meeting, reporting concerns around asbestos and blank mold. Some residents have circulated a petition calling for Concierge to provide clear communication, safe living conditions, and services promised in their leasing agreements.

The message sent to building 200 residents reads:

    Residents of Building B (200),

We are excited to announce that Building B has passed all inspections and is ready for you to return home! We are ecstatic to have you all back.

Please note, as we continue to make repairs, there are a few things we need your cooperation with:

    1. The garages and carports cannot be used to enter the building, nor can they be used for parking. The garage and carport areas can only be used for emergency egress.
    2. Do not use the exit doors for entry into the building. Please enter through the lobbies.
    3. Do not go under or through the barricaded tarps under the building. Those areas can only be used for emergency egress while repairs are still underway.

Please let us treat you to a welcome back dinner tomorrow night. We will have a complimentary food truck and more details will go out tomorrow.

      Sincerely,

      Concierge Rocky Hill Management
